Switching Power Supply Design

Power supply design is one of SiGenix's deepest areas of expertise. We design AC/DC and DC/DC switching converters optimized for efficiency, thermal performance, and electromagnetic compatibility — including custom transformer and inductor design when off-the-shelf magnetics won't meet specification.

Efficient, Quiet, and Reliable Power Conversion

Every product lives or dies by its power supply. A converter that runs hot, radiates EMI, or behaves badly during transients will undermine an otherwise solid design. We design switching power supplies from the ground up — choosing the right topology for the requirements, not forcing the requirements into a familiar topology.

Our experience spans AC/DC flyback, forward, and LLC resonant converters and DC/DC buck, boost, buck-boost, and SEPIC designs, including synchronous rectification and multi-phase architectures. When a design needs isolation for medical use, we design to IEC 60601-1 safety and isolation requirements from the first schematic.

What Our Power Supply Design Includes

AC/DC Converter Design

Offline flyback, forward, and LLC resonant converter design — from universal-input adapters to embedded supplies inside larger products.

DC/DC Converter Design

Buck, boost, buck-boost, and SEPIC topologies, including synchronous rectification and multi-phase designs for high-current, high-efficiency rails.

Custom Magnetics

Custom transformer and inductor design when off-the-shelf magnetics can’t meet the efficiency, size, or isolation requirements of the design.

Efficiency & Thermal Analysis

Loss budgeting, efficiency optimization, and thermal analysis so the supply meets its ratings in the real enclosure — not just on the bench.

EMI Filtering & Layout

Pre-compliance EMI filtering and switching-supply layout practices that keep conducted and radiated emissions under the limits the first time.

IEC 60601-1 Medical Isolation

Isolation barriers, creepage and clearance, and means-of-protection design for power supplies in medical devices per IEC 60601-1.

Frequently Asked Questions

What power supply topologies do you design?

AC/DC flyback, forward, and LLC resonant converters, and DC/DC buck, boost, buck-boost, and SEPIC designs — including synchronous rectification and multi-phase architectures where efficiency and current demands require them.

Can you design custom transformers and inductors?

Yes. When off-the-shelf magnetics won’t meet the specification — for efficiency, size, or isolation — we design custom transformers and inductors and work with magnetics vendors to have them wound.

Can you design power supplies for medical devices?

Yes. We design supplies to IEC 60601-1 electrical safety requirements — isolation barriers, creepage and clearance, leakage current, and means of protection — for FDA-regulated devices.

Our power supply is failing EMC testing. Can you fix it?

Yes. EMI problems in switching supplies are a common reason clients come to us. We diagnose the root cause — layout, filtering, snubbing, or control — and implement targeted fixes rather than trial-and-error ferrite application.

Need a power supply designed — or fixed?

From a new converter design to an existing supply that runs hot or fails EMC, describe the problem and we'll tell you honestly how we can help.
